Welcome to St Piran Class.
Welcome to St Piran class 2016-2017!
We have been very busy this term settling into year 1 and exploring our current topic The Big Build.
Our class blog is updated weekly with class newsletters and photos. Please click here to access the St Piran blog
The Inspire Curriculum
To ensure we meet the new targets of the National Curriculum we will be using The Inspire Curriculum, which is a topic based approach to learning with units changing every half term.
The Big Build
Our current topic is called ‘The Big Build’. We explored the story of The Three Little Pigs. We learnt the story off by heart using our story map to help us and had great fun re-enacting the story in our outdoor storytelling area. We are learning about different materials in Science and made our own wolf masks in Art and Design . We took on the role of builders in our roleplay and made some fantastic structures in Design and Technology.
Your child will be asked to read and have their reading book changed at least once a week by myself or another member of the team. If they have finished their book and would like to change it please feel free to change their reading book in the morning. Reading books are kept in colour coded boxes just outside of Penhaligon class. If you are unable to change their book please mention to one of the team that their book needs changing and we will provide the children with the opportunity to do so at a later point in the day.
In St Piran Class ‘Home Learning’ is celebrated and the children enjoy showing their classmates the learning they have completed in their own time. If your child would like to bring in home learning to share please make sure that it is related to our current topic or our maths. At the moment we have one more week on ‘The Big Build’ focussing on construction and The Three Little Pigs.
Our scheduled times for PE are on a Monday afternoon and a Wednesday afternoon. Each child will need their own labelled PE kit in school on these days. We will be going outside for PE as much as the weather allows us, so please make sure your child has either trainers or plimsolls in their PE kit. As the weather turns colder children are also allowed to wear either dark tracksuit bottoms or leggings as part of their PE kit.
A word from the children
In St Piran class we have fun learning.
Miss Laity is our teacher. Mrs Green, Mrs Thipthorp and Mrs Barbery are our teaching assistants.
In our classroom we have 6 of our own computers which we use to help us learn, we have a space themed reward chart where we all have our own astronauts, and we enjoy our daily book club sessions.
Our favourite thing about St Piran class is challenge time. In
challenge time we take it in turns in our groups to use the different areas in our classroom, we go outside, we use the roleplay, we go on the computers, we use the playdough and we use the construction.
Below you can view and download our yearly overview and the individual curriculum coverage sheets for each of our Inspire topics.
