Lights On with solid fill Areas for Development

1. Communication

– Class Dojo is not consistently reliable; some parents want more timely updates about:

  • Daily routines (PE days, forest school, reading groups)

  • Staff changes (e.g. new teachers or assistants)

  • Behavioural expectations and class structure

  • Curriculum plans (ideally shared at the start of term)

– Requests for more updates on children’s progress and more opportunities to see their work

2. Behaviour Management

– A few parents raised concerns about disruptive behaviour in class and its impact on learning.

– Suggestions included:

  • More supervision during independent learning/playtime

  • Consistency in behaviour policies between staff

3. Forest School and Outdoor Learning

– Several parents would like children to access the forest school area more regularly.

– More time outside was seen as beneficial for behaviour and wellbeing.

4. Nutrition and Healthy Eating

– Concerns raised about:

  • Daily sugary desserts

  • Lack of healthy and diverse (including vegan) meal options

  • Mixed messaging when promoting healthy habits (e.g. sugary cakes alongside dental initiatives)

– Suggestions to replace cake sales with less sugar-centric fundraising (e.g. non-uniform days)

5. Inclusion of Reception Children

– Some disappointment that clubs and certain enrichment opportunities are not open to Reception pupils, even once a week

– Parents suggested a greater sense of inclusion and age-appropriate rewards

6. Administrative and Safety Concerns

– A few practical issues raised:

  • Lack of adult presence during school pick-up

  • Unclear procedures on first day

  • Inconsistencies with reading book updates and homework expectations

  • Session timings for Lighthouse Club could be better balanced
